Dragon Age: Inquisition has a varied crafting system but players aren't forced to use it, as BioWare confirms that plenty of great weapons or armor can be found within the RPG, although truly spectacular gear needs planning and crafting.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is set to debut next month and BioWare has begun ramping up the marketing campaign for the ambitious medieval fantasy role-playing experience by detailing the different mechanics that augment both the single-player and multiplayer campaigns.

Players can choose not to craft items

After going in-depth about the crafting mechanics and how they can be used to customize the items used by the main character as well as those of his followers, BioWare now talks a bit about the choices that can be made by players and how they can even skip the crafting system altogether.

More specifically, BioWare's Mike Laidlaw confirms on the official website that players can do whatever they want and there will be a lot of great gear that can be looted throughout the RPG's massive open world.

"One of our goals is to let you play the game you want to, so if you want to loot only, loot on! Absolutely, the game doesn't rely on crafting as a necessary component. There are plenty of shiny things to find in Thedas," he explains.

Crafted items can surpass the quality of found ones

Bear in mind, however, that with a bit of planning and resource management, BioWare confirms that crafted items, like armor or weapons, can surpass in terms of quality and stats things you find in the game's world.

However, this requires a bit of forethought and decisions from players, in order to carefully spend the rarest and most useful components.

"It depends how you manage your crafting materials. For instance, dragon bone is one of the hardest crafting materials you can get. Do you put it into an armor slot to harden your defense? Or do you put it into an attacking slot for high damage per second? Or maybe a utility slot for a strength upgrade? Or what about a masterwork slot for a chance to cast a special attack? Powerful items like these take time, effort, and planning to create," BioWare's Chris Pickford explains.

As such, those who want the best gear should give the crafting system a shot, especially if they want to customize their gear towards what suits their play style.

Dragon Age: Inquisition launches next month for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
