Further proof that the universe of “Star Trek” will never cease to fascinate and generate profit comes from auction house Julien’s Auctions, which just sold Captain James T. Kirk’s phaser for a record amount.

Featured in the second pilot of the original “Star Trek” series in the ‘60s, the phaser hit for almost four times the amount the auction house was hoping for.

Somewhere in this world, there is a very happy Trekkie right now.

“The phaser, as used by the character played by William Shatner, was expected to sell for about $50,000 [€38,343] but racked up more than four times that including commission, Julien's Auctions said,” The Register reports.

“The prop laser gun was flogged a two-day ‘Hollywood Legends’ sale that also included paraphernalia from sci-fi TV and movies including Stargate, Lord of the Rings, Alien and Star Wars as well as bits and pieces from modern films such as Mission Impossible and vintage flicks including The Birds,” adds the same media outlet.

Other items that hit the auction block at the same time included Christopher Reeve’s Superman costume (undies included) and one of Marilyn Monroe’s bras.
