As time passes by 3D seems to make its way into more and more consumer devices, after arriving in various tablets and smartphones, Cowon announcing they are going to release a 3D enabled portable media player that doesn't require any kind of glasses for viewing tri-dimensional content, dubbed appropriately enough the Cowon 3D.

Renowned primarily for their audio quality, Cowon really seems to be determined to bring the PMP into a new era, these type of devices finding it harder and harder to compete with last generation smartphones.

As a result, Cowon has added a 3D glasses-free screen to the 3D, the PMP being also capable of decoding Full HD 1080p video, according to the company.

These will be displayed on a 4.8-inch LCD screen that can push 800x480 pixels, Cowon also adding a composite out and HDMI port, enabling users to watch their video content or pictures on a much bigger screen if they so desire.

As far as the rest of the hardware features are concerned, the Cowon 3D comes with either 32GB or 64GB of built-in flash storage, that can be expanded via a SD card slot, unlike the X7, Cowon also adding WiFi connectivity to this unit.

Furthermore, the Cowon 3D PMP also comes with the Opera browser pre-installed allowing for easy web surfing.

To finish the specs list, battery life is estimated at an impressive 10 hours for video playback, 45 hours of audio and up to 300 hours on standby.

According to engadget, the Cowon 3D is scheduled to be launched on December 10th in South Korea, pricing coming at about $431 for the 32GB version and $509 for the roomier 64GB model.

Unfortunately, we don't know when will these become available outside of South Korea as Cowon hasn't stated anything in that regard.
