Gizmodo says iPod firmware will soon be updated, allowing Cover Flow

Today, exclusive news at Gizmodo says the iPod firmware will be updated soon with the adding of the Cover Flow feature. "A little birdie told us that a firmware update for iPods is coming soon, giving you that same Cover Flow view that you've grown to love in iTunes now", says Charlie White at Gizmodo.

The team at Gizmodo has posted a video on YouTube showing this functionality; you can also view it here. Though this could qualify as good news (Gizmodo says there's a chance the video might be fake, so this may be just a rumor), iPod users were not so impressed by this information. Some say this feature is more about the looks than about functionality. They think Cover Flow will only make the search more difficult.

The same source that tipped Gizmodo on the Cover Flow update for iPods said there will be no release of next-generation iPods until iPhone becomes available (hopefully, that will be in June). Well, that is predictable. I mean, how much work can the Apple team put in these days?

The Apple TV will be shipped in the second half of March, the iPhone is announced for June, rumors say Leopard will be launched as early as March (I'm beginning to have strong doubts about this), now this firmware update talk. That is a lot of work! I really don't see room for next-generation iPods right now, but we've only got to wait and see.

There has been no official information about the firmware update or the next-generation iPods. We'll keep you posted on the matter.

Here's Gizmodo's video, watch how Cover Flow would look on your iPod.
