Even if they wanted to do it, they couldn’t do it

It’s been over 10 years since “Friends” wrapped its very successful TV run on NBC, and castmembers have repeatedly dashed all reports about a possible on-camera reunion / feature film, but the fans are yet to lose hope. Courteney Cox is here to talk some sense into them.

Cox is promoting her directorial debut “Before I Go,” and she talked to Yahoo! on I Yahoo’d Myself about moving into directing and the odds of getting together with her former “Friends” mates.

They can hardly do it in real life, she says, so chances of doing it in front of a camera are slim to none. Her best piece of advice for the fans still holding on to hope is that they should just “let it go,” as you can see in the video below.

“We’re not doing it! It’s just not going to happen,” she says. “We’ve gotten about 80 percent there, but there’s always one person who flakes at the end.”

For years, it was assumed that David Schwimmer, who played brother Ross to Cox’s Monica, was the one who was holding out on committing to a reunion and was thus breaking the hearts of fans. As Cox puts it, the person who “flakes at the end” may or may not be David.

The series finale of “Friends” remains one of the most watched episodes in scripted programming in the world, with 52.5 million viewers. Testament to the show’s popularity is the very fact that fans are still watching it and still talking about it after 11 years. In other words, despite Cox’s most recent denial of a reunion, chances are the rumors about it will continue to be making the rounds.
