Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is coming to Mac OS X on August 21st. The game will be available as a digital download via Steam.

According to a fresh post on steampowered.com, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is actively being developed by Valve Software in cooperation with Hidden Path Entertainment, a Seattle-based studio.

The game was scheduled to launch for Mac, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 in early 2012. It now appears everyone will be getting it at the same time, according to this tweet by Polygon.

The title will also be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo, Valve said.

“Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago,” according to the official announcement by the people behind the Half Life series.

One of the most popular shooters ever created (and to think it all started from a Half Life mod), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive features new maps, characters, and weapons, as well as updated versions of the classic CS content, according to the people at Valve.

There will be new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more, come August. Valve’s Doug Lombardi commented: "Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999.”

“For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac,” said Lombardi.

The trailer does show some pretty impressive graphics and gameplay, as well as some extra weapons. CS: GO should come as quite a treat for longstanding fans of the franchise. Mac gamers can also brag that they’re not being left behind on the release date this time around.

And the price tag is said to be quite attractive – $15, or around 12 EUR.
