Mid-tower uses lots of metal mesh elements and has an all-black design

Since we expect many people to build new PCs now that better motherboards and CPUs are available or inbound, we may as well cover some desktop cases.

This time we'll be looking at one of the newest creatures to leave the labs of Cougar, a PC case maker based in Germany.

Volant is the name that the product bears, brought upon by its specialty: optimum cooling.

Indeed, one might say that Cougar even sacrificed some of the potential aesthetic value of the Volant in order to enhance its ventilation.

Not that we'd go so far as to call the newcomer ugly, but we've definitely seen cases with better looks, with or without the same all-black treatment, not that beauty isn't subjective, but we digress.

The Volant mid-tower has a mesh front and room for eight fans, depending on size and type.

For instance, one can install two 120 mm fans on the front or just one spinner with a diameter of 140 mm (only the rear-top fan is pre-installed by default).

That said, the Cougar Volant has seven PCI Express slots, all of them vented, while the interior is spacious enough for boards with length of up to 320 mm.

Moving on, there are three 5.25-inch ODD bays, plus an external 3.5-inch HDD bay and and I/O panel with two USB ports (one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0) and audio/mic jacks.

As for internal storage, Cougar tossed in six 3.5-inch bays and, for solid state drives, one 2.5-inch bay as well.

Finally, on the top of the Volant, buyers will find a docking station with support for 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives, complete with hot-swap capability and data access on-the-fly.

We don't have any price to report on, unfortunately, but keep an eye on your local retailers just in case the Volant shows up there.
