LG might not be able to meet its 12 million shipment goal

LG launched its latest achievement in terms of smartphone technology, the G4, a while ago during a press event.

The Korean tech giant chose to wait a month after both Samsung and HTC launched their newest flagships at MWC 2015 before releasing its own premium smartphone. This strategy ensured that when it did so, all eyes were on the company.

Even so, as a report coming from Business Korea seems to point out, consumer response to the LG G4 has been quite weak.

The company has said that their target sales figure for the LG G4 is 12 million units, which constitutes a 20% increase compared to last year’s G3 sales results.

Costumers are quite skittish while the LG G4 is concerned

Furthermore, it was revealed that subsidies offered by mobile carriers for the G4 were much higher (from $11 / €9 to $24 / €21) than those imposed for the Samsung Galaxy S6 in South Korea. But even so, a few days after the release, consumer interest doesn’t seem to be influenced by this factor.

Analysts familiar with the situation are skeptical that LG will be able to accomplish the proposed 12 million sales target.

Kim Hye-yong, analyst for NH Investment & Securities explains that “The sales target for the G4 does not seem easy to accomplish. The competitors now have better products than they used to when the G3 was released. It seems there is no problem with the performance and heating of the G4, but its high-end image could take a hit.”

More realistically, the LG G4 is envisioned to be able to reach the 7.7 million unit target, thus performing better than the G3, which sold 5.8 million units in 2014.

Albeit arriving with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that supports QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and a nifty 16MP main camera with dual-LED flash and 4K video recording, LG’s new flagship draws power from a Snapdragon 808 chip.

LG abstained from implementing the Snapdragon 810 in the new phone for whatever reason, but the thing is, benchmarks proved its performance to be way lower than the Exynos 7420 inside the Galaxy S6 or the Snapdragon 810 living inside the HTC One M9.

Is this one of the reasons customers will be staying clear of the new LG G4?
