Microsoft seems tireless when it comes to adding new enhancements to Cortana, the digital personal assistant in Windows Phone 8.1, as new features have been spotted in it only one day after it received an update that provided users with the option to find local events.

Today, Cortana has been found to be able to offer users suggestions on nearby places, which should make it easier for them to discover new places to eat, shop, hang out or the like.

As WPCentral notes, these recommendations are delivered based on Foursquare's location database, and are listed in accordance with their popularity, newness and buzz.

Additionally, Cortana can now provide users with suggestions on applications available for various events or attractions near their location.

As usual, the update has been performed server-side, which means that users will simply see the new features available on their smartphones, without having to perform specific actions to receive them. Both Nearby places and Local apps can be found in Cortana > Menu > Interests > Discover.

Previously, Microsoft confirmed plans to release new updates to Cortana every two weeks, but it appears that they are actually pushing new features out as soon as they are ready, which means that more of them might start arriving soon.
