Corsair has announced today the expansion of its line of flash memory products, with the launch of the new P256 high-performance solid state drive, featuring a total storage capacity of 256GB. Designed using Samsung MLC flash memory and Samsung Controller IC, the new P256 from Corsair is said to be capable of delivering read speeds
of 220MB/s and write speeds that go all the way to 200MB/s. With these numbers, the new Flash-based storage solution from Corsair is focused on providing computer enthusiasts with the latest in hardware performance, speeding up applications and boosting the overall performance of the computer system.

“The Corsair Storage Solutions P256 delivers the best computing experience of any single storage drive available today,” said John Beekley, VP of Applications Engineering at Corsair. “Using the P256 results in immediate and dramatic improvements in system startup and shutdown, game level loading, application startup, and many other everyday tasks. Additionally, the P256 is more durable and reliable than hard disk drives, and has been shown in the Corsair Labs to provide up to 25% longer battery life in portable computers.”

With the fast advancements made in the field of Flash memory, today's solid-state drives are capable of delivering a significant performance boost, while lowering the necessary power requirements. When compared to the more traditional and mainstream hard disk drives, SSDs deliver a series of benefits, especially for those users who are looking for the latest in computer performance. That is also the case with the new P256 from Corsair, which has been featured with Samsung MLC flash memory, combined with a Samsung Controller IC. In addition, the P256 uses 128MB of super-fast cache memory and adds support for Native Command Queuing (NCQ).

Corsair hasn't yet announced any details regarding the P256 price tag, but says it will be available with a 2-year warranty, at the company's authorized distributors and resellers worldwide.
