Whereas Platinum-rated power supplies have already been released companies like GeIL, Corsair decided to offer something to those that can't really afford that top-end product, thus creating the new Professional Series.

Those that thought Corsair was going to settle for just a new set of Vengeance DDR3 memory products would be very mistaken.

In fact, the outfit released several different products, some of which make up the new set of 80Plus rated power supplies.

More specifically, the company finished the development of the newest Professional and Professional Gold PSUs.

One 80Plus Silver certified model of 1,050W was created, as well as a unit of 650W which features 80Plus Gold certification.

In that order, they bear the names of Professional Series HX1050 and Professional Series Gold AX650, their efficiencies going up to 88% and 90%, respectively.

"We are expanding our top two PSU lines thanks to the continued strong demand from performance enthusiasts for highly reliable, super-efficient power supplies," said Ruben Mookerjee, VP and General Manager for Components at Corsair.

"While dependability is an absolute requirement for world-class PC builds, power requirements do vary by system. These new models provide expert system builders with even more flexibility in choosing the right power supply for their needs."

For those that want more information on the performance parameters, the MTBF of both newcomers is 100,000 hours, while a single 12V rail handles the power output.

The AX650 has a 120mm fan and a fully modular design (users get to choose which cables to plug into it), while the HX1050 has a more conservative cable system and a 140mm spinner.

They will sell for $169 and $239, respectively, and will be backed by seven-year warranties once they start shipping sometime during the next few weeks. Rivalry with the likes of FSP Aurum is more or less guaranteed.
