Drives get listed ahead of release

Corsair already has a decent lineup of solid state drives whose speeds drastically outmatch those delivered by hard drives. Still, the hardware-solution developer hasn't exactly been aggressively focusing on developing SSDs. Nevertheless, this seems ready to change now that the company has been revealed to be just about ready to launch two new series. Known as the Nova and Reactor Series, the solid state drives have already been listed on cclonline.com.

Solid state drives are generally known for their speeds, which hard drives have genuinely no chance of catching up to. The upcoming devices from Corsair are no exception. The Nova line is made up of two units, one offering 64GB of storage and the other boasting a 128GB capacity. The Reactor series features drives of 60GB and 120GB, respectively. All the drives make use of multi-level cell (MLC) NAND chips and operate on the SATA 3.0Gb/s interface.

The Reactor-series units have a cache memory of 128MB and, in addition to the SATA 3.0 Gb/s connectivity, they boast mini USB connectors. Speed-wise, the 60GB model has a read speed of 250MB/s and a writing speed of 110MB/s, with the read-write transfer rates of the 120GB version being of 250MB/s and of 170 MB/s, respectively.

The read write speeds of the Nova solid state drives differ according to the model. While the maximum read speed of the drives is of 215MB/s, the maximum writing rate can be of 130MB/s (when using the V64 model) and of 195MB/s (when the V128 model is employed). These drives have a buffer memory of 64MB.

All the storage units in the Nova and Reactor families use the 2.5-inch form factor. The Reactor drives are listed with prices of 154 Euro for the 60GB model and of 300 Euro for the 120GB one, whereas the Nova drives of 64GB and 128GB are priced at roughly 163 and 308 Euro, respectively. Both series should be officially introduced soon.
