Aiming to grant gamers yet another reason to spend hours browsing through PC chassis offers, Corsair developed the Carbide Series 500R, a sort of successor to the Carbide 400R launched around this same time last month.

Thermaltake revealed a mid-tower of its own not long ago, but Corsair did not let itself be outdone that easily.

What the company did was officially reveal the Carbide Series 500R, even setting up the official product page, located here.

Essentially, this is a gaming-oriented product that has “an exceptionally aggressive price point,” as Corsair calls it, of $139.99 (106.40 Euro, based on exchange rates).

It supports ATX and mATX motherboards, has eight expansion slots, four exposed 5.25-inch drive bays (optical disk drives, accessories, etc.) and six 3.5/3.5-inch bays on the inside (for HDDs/SSDs).

Furthermore, a hefty number of fans can be placed on the inside and, for connectivity, a front-placed I/O panel offers two USB 3.0 ports, one IEEE1394 connector and headphone and mic jacks.

“The Carbide Series 500R takes everything that's great about the 400R, inherits additional features from our higher-end cases, and wraps them all in a new skin that really draws the eye,” said Ruben Mookerjee, VP and general manager for Components at Corsair.

“Cooling performance is superb, and it's a great platform for high-performance gaming rigs with multiple graphics cards.”

For those who want to know exactly what cooling they will get, six 120 mm / 140 mm fan mounts are present, while a 200 mm spinner is already included (on the side panel), along with a pair of 120 mm ones on the front. A 120mm fan is placed at the back as well.

All in all, the newcomer qualifies as a full-fledged gaming case for enthusiasts who, nonetheless, do not want to spend a fortune on all the design embellishments of other items, for whatever reason.

Furthermore, one might notice similarities with the Obsidian Series and the Graphite Series of enclosures.
