Measuring 609 (H) x 609 (L) x 229 (W) mm, Corsair's latest creation in the area of computer cases is a a steel-wrought full tower chassis with an aluminum faceplate. Designed as a high-performance case aimed at enthusiasts, the chassis is known by the name of the Corsair Obsidian Series 700D. This full tower builds upon the design of the award-winning Obsidian Series 800D and boasts a certain range of modifications while keeping the overall construction of its predecessor.

The Obsidian 700D retains the same number of six 3.5-inch HDD bays (compatible with 2.5-inch drives) and five 5.25-inch bays. However, the four hot-swap SATA disk drive bays of the 800D have been replaced by four fixed SATA bays and the case features a solid side panel, as opposed to the windowed panel of the 800D.

Other than these modifications, and the front-panel changes associated with the removal of hot-swap SATA bays, the case retains its predecessor's removable CPU backplate, cable management system and tool-free 5.25-inch drive installation. The chassis also keeps the 800D's possibility of adding a triple 120mm radiator, setting the stage for high-end liquid cooling mechanisms to be installed.

“From the moment we announced the Obsidian Series 800D chassis, enthusiasts were captivated by its unique combination of features, looks and performance, and the fact that it is a true builders’ chassis,” Jim Carlton, VP of marketing at Corsair, said. “Our goal with the Obsidian Series 700D is to offer a chassis that retains the essence of what made the 800D so popular, but at a lower price point, allowing a wider range of consumers to build their own Corsair Dream PC.”

The Corsair Obsidian Series 700D full tower desktop computer case is backed by a two-year, limited warranty and will start selling sometime in April through the company's authorized resellers.
