Corsair, one of the leading makers of Flash-based memory products has announced plans to provide its customers with the company's first storage product, designed as an alternative to the fast growing market for Solid State Drives. With the announcement, Corsair has also introduced its first 2.5-inch SSD, coming to provide users with a maximum storage capacity of 128GB. The unit has been dubbed S128 and is based on a Multi Level Cell NAND-based technology, designed to provide both storage and high-performance.

Corsair has delayed its debut into the world of Flash-based storage, as it didn't consider that the SSD market could gain popularity. However, the company has finally come out with its own product, providing users with a 2.5-inch SSD, weighing 72 grams and coming with a claimed sequential read and write speed of 90MB/s and 70MB/s, respectively. According to available specifications, the power consumption level is rated at between 0.46W and 048W. According to Hexus, the new Corsair drives have been built using Samsung NAND flash memory and a Samsung controller, but that is yet to be confirmed by the company.

So far it is uncertain if the memory maker is going to release higher-performance models, coming to meet the requirements of computer and technology enthusiasts. However, the second generation of Corsair SSDs could provide read and write speeds in the range of 200MB/s, for enthusiast models, while higher-performance models could provide impressive 400MB/s read speeds.

Despite no official word from Corsair, online retailers, such as NCIX and Scan, have already listed the new SSD as available for pre-order. Price wise, you will be able to purchase Corsair's SSD for $335.74 (£237.77), while at Scan the new storage product sells for £326.54.

Corsair is known as one of the most reliable suppliers of high-performance memory products, including RAM and USB flash drives.
