With CeBIT 2011 coming closer, makers of storage devices have begun to announce what they will put on display at the expo, and Corsair has now joined the likes of OCZ in previewing its SATA 6.0 Gbps SSDs.

With solid state drives, the better the controller chip is the faster the units become, overall.

In fact, since speed is the main criteria used when choosing one SSD from a multitude, the controller chips, indirectly, become even more relevant.

It is for this reason that SandForce became so famous so quickly, as its SSD controllers are among, if not the fastest on the market.

In fact, the outfit even offers chips capable of taking advantage of the high data rates possible with the SATA 6.0 Gbps connection.

OCZ has already unveiled the Vertex 3 line of units powered by them, and Corsair has now followed suite with the Force Series GT.

"Corsair and SandForce have been working together closely, and I am thrilled that Corsair has selected the SF-2000 SSD Processor family for their new set of enthusiast-class solid-state drives," stated Thad Omura, VP of Marketing at SandForce.

"The new Force GT SSDs will enable Corsair's performance-obsessed customers to break new ground in storage subsystem performance."

They are capable of reading data at up to 520 MB/s and of writing it at 500 MB/s, while the 4k random write performance is of 60,000.

Unfortunately, capacities and prices have been kept a mystery, hopefully only until CeBIT comes around. Either way, they will ship in the second quarter of 2011.

"With the rapid adoption of systems with SATA 3 support, enthusiasts are demanding SSDs that can take advantage of the dramatic increase in throughput over SATA 2," said Thi La, Vice President of Memory Products at Corsair.

"The new Force GT SSDs can deliver up to twice the speed of the fastest SATA 2 drives, making them ideal for high-performance systems."
