Solid state drives may not be known for their capacities, but they can still pack a decent amount of Gigabytes, as proven by the new, high-end Corsair Force Series GT units.

The Corsair Force Series GT family of solid state drives is one that has been on the market for a while already.

One of, if not the main factor behind its good marketing performance is the utilization of famed controller chips from SandForce, the SF-2000 generation to be exact.

Simply put, these chips enable the SSDs to take advantage of the high bandwidth made available by the SATA 6.0 Gbps interface.

The only gripe people might find with the product line, pricing aside, is that the capacity options aren't all that varied and definitely do not reach very great heights.

Corsair has now changed this state of affairs, having created two new models, with capacities of 180 GB and 240 GB, respectively.

Of course, capacities will vary slightly depending on what formatting and operating system is used.

They both have the SandForce SF-2280 controller and can read data at up to 555 MB/s, while writing tasks are completed at 525 MB/s.

TRIM is, naturally, fully supported, while the random write performance is of up to o 85,000 IOPS.

"Force Series GT is our fastest, most flexible line of SSDs," said Thi La, Vice President of Memory Products at Corsair.

"The new 180GB and 240GB models are ideal for premium systems which require large amounts of high-performance storage."

Corsair's two new solid state drives are built out of MLC synchronous flash memory and feature a MTBF of 2 million hours.

Finally, they have the 2.5-inch form factor but are shipped with a 3.5-inch adapter, for the prices of $379 (180 GB) and $489 (240 GB). All available information can be found on the official product page.
