Corsair seems determined to expand its presence in the solid state drive market and has recently expanded its line of Force 3 and Force GT SSDs with the addition of a series of new units which offer higher storage capacities.

The new range of drives is comprised out of two Force Series 3 models with capacities of 180GB and 480GB, while the third SSD also offers 480GB of storage space but makes part of the Force Series GT.

All three SSDs use the 2.5-inch form factor and are powered by SandForce's second generation SF-2280 controllers with support for the SATA 6Gbps interface.

According to Corsair, the Force Series GT drive, which packs the faster synchronous NAND flash memory, is capable of delivering sequential read and write speeds of 555MB/s and 525MB/s, respectively, while 4K random write performance tops at 85K IOPS.

In comparison, the two drives from the Force 3 series have their sequential read and write speed rated at 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s respectively.

The slower speeds are due to the use of asynchronous NAND Flash which isn't capable of delivering the same performance as synchronous memory, but is available at a lower price point.

"As one of the leaders in high-performance solid state drives, we're pleased to offer a full range of SSD models to address customers' needs for high performance, high-capacity storage," said Thi La, Vice President of Memory Products at Corsair.

The new Force Series 3 and Force Series GT SSD models should be available as we speak and pricing for the Force Series 3 180GB has been set at $249 USD (about 189 Euros).

The 480GB Force Series 3 and Force Series GT drives are priced at $799 and $999, respectively.

All Force Series 3 and Force Series GT models come with a 3.5-inch adapter for use in both laptop and desktop PCs.
