One more 'green' company...

There is a trend nowadays, even among the hardcore, performance-centered and high-end hardware companies, to release "green" or at least a little "greener" products. Corsair is well known for its high performance and good overclocking capabilities of its computer memory modules. What few know is that Corsair has some pretty nice lines of power supply units, too. And one of them is the new and green VX line that ? according to a company product presentation ? is the "industry?s most efficient power management and ultra-quiet design for mainstream users". The eco-friendly VX series features two models, the VX450W and the VX550W, that are both Energy Star 2007 compliant and operate with 80 percent efficiency.

Corsair's electrical design is a more conservative one, as the VX PSU series sports only one +12V power rail that can deliver "continuous power under heavy loads". According to the producer company, this design has a number of advantages, including future compatibility with yet to emerge computer platforms. As this line of power supply units is designed for home users, it features a single 120mm double ball-bearing fan that delivers "whisper quiet operation" by "varying the RPM in response to temperature".

Corsair VX series main features are compatibility with the latest ATX12V v2.2 standard, high performance electrical circuitry that delivers up to 85 percent efficiency under heavy load conditions and a "99% Active Power Factor Correction" that provides cleaner and more reliable power. For the ever increasing number of systems that adopt the SATA interface, the VX Series of PSUs provides no less than six specialized SATA connectors, while the long cables are perfect even for a full tower size chassis.

"Corsair has engineered a power supply that appeals to both the enthusiast as well as the cost conscious system builder," said Jack Peterson, VP of Marketing a Corsair, who was cited by the site DailyTech. "We leveraged everything we learned from our award-winning HX Series of modular power supplies to build the most reliable, Eco-friendly value priced PSU in the market."
