The flower is beginning to close, will soon fall apart

On July 21, a corpse flower growing at the US Botanic Garden Conservatory in Washington, DC bloomed and started releasing a foul odor similar to that of rotting flesh.

Gardeners say that, after intoxicating visitors for a couple of days, the plant is getting ready to close up its bloom.

Oddly enough, the plant smells better now that it is dying than it did just days ago, when it was in full bloom.

According to Live Science, the corpse flower's stench is not as poignant as it used to be. Therefore, visitors can have a close look at it without fearing that they might tear up.

“We've already reached that stage where the plant is showing signs of beginning to pack it in. Over the course of the next several days, the whole plant will essentially fall apart,” plant scientist Ari Novy explains.
