Cydia gatekeeper Jay Freeman, better known as Saurik among members of the iOS community, has issued an updated version of Corona that untethers A4 jailbreaks under iOS 5.0.1. The updated utility addresses an iBooks bug.

An update to Corona had been scheduled since last week.

A few hours ago, the updated jailbreak tool was released at version 1.0-4. Saurik said on Twitter, “Corona (5.0.1 untether) 1.0-4 is now out: users of redsn0w or the older packages should install. This fixes both iBooks and launchd (again).”

Minutes later, he returned with a new announcement, informing that a new version had already been pushed out to Cydia: “As many users don't realize that untethers only affects boot, I just released 1.0-5 of the Corona package, which forces a reboot on upgrade,” Saurik wrote.

To be clear, this is not the much anticipated A5 jailbreak (for iPhone 4S and iPad 2). It’s only an updated version of the untethered hack supporting A4 devices. The purpose of the update is to eliminate a minor inconvenience.

Corona is not the only jailbreak utility that received an update to fix the iBooks bug. The iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w incorporates the same patch, as team chief Musclenerd pointed out on Twitter:

“redsn0w 0.9.10b4 […] includes the iBooks fix...thanks to @xvolks for porting it to @pod2g's corona!”, he wrote just a few hours ago.

On the Dev-Team Blog, he elaborates: “The b4 version of redsn0w incorporates the 5.0.1 fix for iBooks, and also for sporadic problems with launchctl.”

“Thanks to @xvolks for merging the iBooks (sandbox) fix from @comex’s github into the overall corona untether from @pod2g! As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose),” reads the blog entry.

The post also includes a tip for instances where auto-detection fails and redsn0w tells users that no identifying data was found. According to Musclenerd, “you can always pre-select the appropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using ‘Extras->Select IPSW’.”
