Corning, the company that makes the Gorilla Glass protection for smartphone and tablet PC displays, is working on new technologies that would make the screen of smartphones visible even in direct sunlight.

The company is set to come up with anti-reflection features of future screens, thus greatly improving the usability of mobile devices when outside.

As PhoneArena notes in a recent article, the company went to the MIT Mobile Summit to showcase some of the latest advancements it has made in this and to explain the idea behind it.

Apparently, the main factors that affect the sunlight visibility of a handset or slate are peak screen brightness and general screen reflectivity ratio.

While today’s screens stand at around 5 percent reflectivity, Corning is set to bring that down to only 1 percent, as the circle in the middle of the screen in the photo above shows.
