Former teen idol Corey Haim, star of “Lucas” and “The Lost Boys,” was found unresponsive in his apartment. He was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at a nearby hospital, having apparently ODed. He was only 38 years old, but had a long history of substance abuse. A police investigation will determine the exact cause of death, the
Los Angeles Times says.
“Actor and former teen idol Corey Haim has died at the age of 38, the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed to KTLA. Haim died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday of an apparent accidental overdose, according to the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division. Coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said an autopsy would determine an official cause of death,” the publication says.
Apparently, the actor had not been feeling well only days before passing away, complaining of flu-like symptoms and even collapsing once in front of his mother, who happened to be in the house with him when he died. Initial reports circulating in the media say four prescription bottles not related to his illness were found in his home, and they might also hold the clue to the cause of death, it is being said. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank.
“Haim was found unresponsive sometime before 2 a.m. inside a unit at the Oakwood Apartment Complex, located between Burbank and the Hollywood Hills, police said. He was at home with his mother at the time. TMZ is reporting that Haim had been sick over the last couple of days with flu-like symptoms and collapsed in front of his mother after getting out of bed. Four prescription bottles, not related to his illness, were reportedly found inside the apartment,” the LA Times explains.
Haim had a long history of substance abuse, speaking about his addiction on numerous occasions. At this point, it’s not known whether he had relapsed or if he accidentally ODed by self-medicating.
