The latest iteration of WinDVD from Corel has been tailored to the most recent version of the Windows client, making the best out of the Windows Aero and multi touch capabilities brought to the table by the operating system. According to Corel, WinDVD 2010 is designed to support all the enhancements associated with Windows 7’s graphical user interface including Jump Lists and the Superbar. At the same time, WinDVD 2010 was also adapted to the operating system’s natural user interface, namely the multi-touch capabilities offered by Windows 7.

Designed to play nice not just with Windows 7, but also with Windows XP and Windows Vista, WinDVD is capable of playing back high-definition Blu-ray movies at 1080p. The promise from Corel is that AVCHD or SD home movies will deliver a superior viewing experience thanks to HD upscaling technology for standard-definition DVDs.

"With more than 200 million units sold around the world, WinDVD is widely recognized as the industry’s best DVD and Blu-ray playback software and with the latest version we wanted to take our users’ experiences with the software even further,” revealed Nick Davies, senior vice president of Product Management and Product Marketing at Corel.

Corel WinDVD Pro 2010 comes to the table with a price tag of $99.99, while the Standard version of WinDVD 2010 costs just $49.99, but doesn’t feature Blu-Ray support. Corel is offering WinDVD Pro 2010 localized in English, Chinese Traditional, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish as a standalone download, and is also looking to provide retailers worldwide with the English, Chinese Traditional and German versions by the end of September.

“Every enhancement in WinDVD Pro 2010 was designed to provide the best possible PC movie experience. Thanks to the new performance enhancements, actions across the entire application are faster, fine details and special effects are clearer and users can now have full access to interactive content. And it is all delivered through a clean and easy-to-use interface that supports Windows 7 and Windows Touch,” Davies added.

Below are the WinDVD 2010 formats and codecs, according to Corel: •Format Support: BD-ROM (BonusView, BD-Live), BD-R/BD-RE, AVCREC, AVCHD™, MPEG2 PS/TS, Windows Media, QuickTime •Video Codec: MPEG2, VC1, MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) •Audio format support: Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby TrueHD, DTS/DTS-HD Master Audio.
