Corel’s Photo Editing group has officially released RAW photo editing software AfterShot Pro 2 on the Mac App Store which does everything from quick batch conversion to non-destructive editing and photo management.

AfterShot Pro 2 sells for $79.99 in the US Mac App Store, and goes for €69.99 in the European Mac App Store. There are no additional in-app purchases to be made to use the app’s full set of features.

What’s new in AfterShot Pro 2

The new AfterShot Pro is a 64-bit app, allowing creatives to achieve more processing power and remove without memory limitations, “Enjoy superior speed and responsiveness app-wide. AfterShot Pro 2 is up to 4x faster than other RAW processors—delivering faster results and saving you more time,” says Corel.

The RAW camera profiles in AfterShot Pro 2 have been updated to support more than 250+ profiles, including RAW formats from all camera manufacturers that you would have heard of. These will be continually updated, according to Corel. Interested parties can visit www.aftershotpro.com to read more about the supported cameras.

Workspace matters

Existing users who plan to upgrade to the new version will be stricken by the new workspace enhancements, according to the developers. Users will be able to “Enjoy a more fluid workflow with a modern, streamlined interface [while] Enhanced Zoom delivers better previewing of smaller images, and a new Image Reset button lets you undo all your changes and view your original photo in a single click,” says Corel.

Batch processing is much easier thanks to the redesigned controls that make the process simpler and faster. Configuring any batch processing task is also a much simpler affair now.

Thanks to Local Contrast enhancements, photographers will be able to recreate the conditions specific to a high-end camera lens giving off the feeling that objects within an image bulge out. Texture and dimension are paramount for Corel.

Finally, the company used technology from Athentech to include an optimization tool for state-of-the-art noise removal. The tool automatically adjusts lighting for every pixel without clipping, while maintaining true color.

“AfterShot Pro 2 has a growing reputation for fast and powerful RAW processing. Debuting on the Mac App Store is a sign of our focus on the Mac and our desire to win Mac users over to an amazing photo editing package,” says Greg Wood, senior product director, Corel Photo Editing.

“With the demise of Aperture, we are eager to bring Mac-users more powerful ways to quickly and efficiently process their RAW photos, and we are sure Aftershot Pro 2 is the ideal tool to unlock the freedom and flexibility of shooting with RAW.”

AfterShot Pro 2 is localized in English, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Japanese.
