INTEL has just released Core 2 Quadro 6700 into the market. And this is the official release; if you were waiting for another slip into the market without INTEL saying anything, you were wrong. Several times in the past, INTEL "lost" the details of its new CPUs and eventually, some
of its most overclocking friendly engineering sample CPUs reached PCs overclockers. But this time, it's the mass release we've all been waiting for. And I'm not talking about just 2 Core 2 Duos 6700 glued together; this CPU has all the efficiency enhancements found in its older brother and roughly twice the power.
If you happen to use a multi core optimized software, this is the CPU for you. In various applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 and 3 Studio Max 8, the use of 4 simultaneous threads makes Kensfield almost twice as fast as its dual core counterpart, however, since most of the software is dual core optimized, you may have to wait a little before you unleash the power of your new friend. Especially since in SOHO environments, a dual core CPU is still the best solution. Looking at the increasing number of multi core patches, I guess in 6 months or so, Kentsfield will be ready for the market.
Well, INTEL has done it again. By that I mean it is the first 4 thread capable CPU mass released. And by a strange coincidence, AMD is only 2 weeks behind with their mass release of a quad core. I'd say the race has just begun. We'll just have to wait and see if AMD regains the crown or not.
