Movie-based title will entertain us starting next year

You have probably not heard of Coraline, the movie: it's one of those projects which promise a lot but are not marketed like a blockbuster. However, it does not mean that this kind of movies should be ignored. With a tagline like "Oh... My... Gosh", Coraline is clearly one of those animated movies you will always remember. And since it promises to be such a successful title (the main character is voiced by Dakota Fanning and the movie is directed by Henry "The Nightmare Before Christmas" Selick), it only seems fair for it to have a game following its release.

Coraline: The Game will hit the market sometime during the first quarter of 2009 (probably at the beginning of February, when the movie is released) and it will be brought to us by D3Publisher. Papaya Studio and ART will take care of the development.

"The alternative-reality based plot of Coraline translates exceptionally well to an interactive gaming adventure," said Yoji Takenaka, executive vice president and CEO, D3P. "We are enjoying working closely with the filmmakers and the team at Universal and Focus Features to authentically portray the film's unique cast of characters and allow players of all ages to experience not only key environments and moments from the movie, but also elements that go beyond the feature film."

Strangely, having in mind that there is not so much time left until the game is released, there are no words regarding the platforms we should expect to play Coraline: The Game on, but we'd risk a bet on Nintendo Wii and DS, and probably PCs. All we know is that the title will be a "surrealistic adventure game" as entertaining as the movie, by bringing us the perfect mix of humor, adventure, and spookiness. Oh... My... Gosh.
