Windows Phone 7, the new mobile operating system from the Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has brought to the market during the ongoing year, will enjoy expanded functionality in early 2011, the company confirmed again recently.

We already knew that Microsoft was readying the release of a software update for all Windows Phone 7 devices out there, and the company re-iterated its commitment to bring it to handsets in early 2011.

Moreover, the behemoth also confirmed that Windows Phone 7 would get one of the most anticipated features, copy & paste.

“Microsoft is committed to delivering regular updates to the Windows Phone experience. Our first update will make copy & paste available in early 2011,” Microsoft said in an official statement, Engadget reports.

However, no details on whether other enhancements would be included in that software update too emerged for the time being, though we should expect for more of them to be there.

Some of the latest rumors on the matter suggested that the first software update for Windows Phone 7 would bring a long list of improvements too.

Moreover, some suggested that the enhancements would be so great, that Microsoft might have called this update 'Windows Phone 8'. Microsoft did not confirm this, but said that more software updates will be released for the mobile platform in the near future.

“In addition to this first update, all Windows Phone 7 users should expect to see additional updates delivered in the future as part of Microsoft's ongoing update process,” the company continued.

This is in line with previous announcements from the company, that its mobile platform will taste updates at a faster pace than previous iterations of the operating system did.

With the first such solution being delivered only a few months after Windows Phone 7 landed on shelves, it seems that the company will indeed keep its promise on this one.
