Nearly 100 sea turtle hatchlings owe their lives to an officer who was kind enough to help them get to the sea.

A few days ago, police officer Derek Conley was on patrol at Lido Beach Resort in Sarasota, US.

Just as his shift was ending, he noticed a few baby sea turtles crawling on the ground and trying to get into the resort through the front door.

He soon learned from a guest that many others were walking around the parking lot, and decided to lend them a hand getting to the sea.

Sources say Derek Conley grabbed a box, collected the baby turtles and released them into the water. The tiny animals did not take long to swim away.

Local authorities explain that, until late October, numerous sea turtles come to nest in the region.

They ask that people who come across baby turtles that appear to be having difficulties finding their way to the ocean alert law enforcement officers as soon as possible.
