Cooler Master's Excalibur Features Barometric Ball Bearing Technology

The new cooler from Cooler Master merges an ingenious combination of strong and balanced airflow with versatility and a high-quality design. Not only does the fan itself deliver excellent cooling but it is also reliable and has a longer lifespan compared with mainstream cooling mechanisms, mainly due to the Barometric Ball Bearing (BBB) technology.

The 120mm case fan provides a strong and sustained airflow thanks to the ability of the fan to achieve rotary speeds of between 600 and 2,000 RPM (rotations per minute) while consuming at most 6W of power. This means that the air flow provided will range between 26.4-85.6 CFM, with an air pressure of 0.75 to 3.53 mmH2O. The fan uses nine sword-shaped blades and may produce noise between 13 and 30 dBA while operating at a voltage rating of 12V DC.

The most interesting feature of the fan, however, lies not in its general properties but in its integration of the Barometric Ball Bearing (BBB) technology. As opposed to normal fan designs, the BBB manages to maintain barometric pressure at the very center of the fan. This allows for a fan lifespan of up to an impressive 100,000 hours and even a reduced noise level.

The fan itself is durable, being made out of a unique, three-piece frame, which has a metal rim. An increased airflow at low speeds is enabled by the honeycomb ventilation holes on the frame (which work as secondary intake), holes that, on the contrary, help reduce noise by releasing excessive turbulence and vibration, at high speeds. The fan blades are removable and the triangular blade tips reduce turbulence at fan edges and decrease the wind shear noise while keeping maximum the surface area. The sword-like shape increases air pressure, especially when the fan is used in dense water cooling radiators or performance heatsinks.
