Often, when a company feels like it's doing well for itself, it will celebrate its success, either covertly or openly, through a tactic that is as old as the IT industry but never really gets dull. Known as the limited edition tactic in certain circles, it consists of the company's decision to take one of their best-selling products, give it a makeover and some extra functionality and manufacture it in a limited number. This is exactly the kind of move that Cooler Master is making with its HAF 922 case.
The original HAF 922 is meant for high-end systems and has a spacious interior, 7+1 PCI expansion slots, a cable management system with CPU retaining hole and can fit full-length graphics cards. It is also optimized for strong airflow. Its specs include support for micro-ATX and ATX motherboards, one exposed and five internal 3.5-inch HDD bays and, obviously a number of fans.
The new, limited edition HAF 922 is, for the most part, faithful to the original design, but has a side window, lacks the top fan and comes colored in red on the outside and black-coated on the inside. The only other difference is that the top fan is missing. Other than that, nothing is changed, which means that, besides the above basic specs, the red model also keeps the USB, audio and eSATA ports on the I/O panel, as well as the 120mm fan at the back (with a rotary speed of 1200RPM) and the 200mm front spinner.
As users can notice, the color of this product is, actually, the only thing that makes it noticeably different from the original. The other unusual element is the ordering procedure, which end-users may be surprised to find out is done via e-mail. Basically, interested enthusiasts need only send an e-mail with their name, shipping address and phone number to store@coolermaster.com and be ready to part with $150 + shipping taxes.
