Sometimes we expect to see innovation come out of established brand names and so we tend to ignore other smaller manufacturers. It turns out, we really shouldn't.

Popular Chinese manufacturer Coolpad will certainly take the world of tablets by storm this year. At CES 2014, the company has just announced the first tablet to feature a 7-inch full HD display and a true Octa-Core processor, dubbed the Coolpad Halo (via Fonearena).

The new tablet will feature a 7-inch HD IPS OGS display with a competent resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.

The life-source of the device will come from a 1.7 GHz Octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor paired with 2GB of RAM plus 700 MHz Mali 450-MP4 GPU and backed up by 8GB of internal storage (which is expandable via the microSD card).

The slate will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, but judging by Chinese manufacturers’ track record, an update to Android 4.4. should make its way into the wild, at some point.

Coolpad appears to want to pack every functionality out there into this model, so it has embedded a dual-SIM (WCDMA+GMS) so users can place phone calls as well.

In the photography department, fans will be thrilled to discover a worthy 13MP auto focus main snapper with dual LED Flash, f/2 aperture, 5 lens optics and capable of recording 1080p Full HD video. In the front, there is a 5MP camera.

On top of that, Coolpad will be adding a 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, aGPS and FM Radio. A 4000 mAh battery will be powering the Octa-core tablet, which means the slate will have a decent life-span.

The Halo tablet will arrive in China, later this month, as the Coolpad 9976A for a price of $312 / €230. So far we don’t know if the device maker will make the tablet available world-wide, but we certainly hope it will.
