After Asetek rushed to reveal, earlier this week, the first liquid cooling solution for AMD's latest dual-chip graphics card, CoolIT has been quick to follow suit with its own liquid cooling system for the HD Radeon 4870 X2. As with Asetek's product, the new Dual Drive Bay VGA Cooler has been designed to effectively dissipate heat from the GPU and to enable a better graphics performance.

Little doubt still remains about the fact that AMD has indeed succeeded to develop the best graphics card currently available on the market. In doing so, it has taken the number one spot, which previously belonged to NVIDIA, in the high-performance graphics market. However, the dual-GPU solution has some drawbacks, as it requires the user to provide for the card a considerably large space inside the desktop computer chassis. CoolIT's latest product comes to deal with that issue.

The Dual Drive Bay VGA Cooler is essentially a liquid cooling system designed to provide enthusiasts with an alternative solution to the reference dual-slot cooling solution of the HD Radeon 4870 X2. According to the company, using the Dual Drive Bay VGA Cooler makes it possible for the card's performance level to be boosted to an impressive 880MHz (meaning an increase of 13.5%) for the GPU, while the GDDR5 memory is pushed to 1GHz (more by 11%).

"The liquid cooling technology that AMD co-developed with CoolIT provides superior cooling protection for users who want to operate their ATI Radeon graphics processors at high clock speeds for extended periods of time," said AMD Fellow and Chief Thermal Architect Dr. Gamal Refai-Ahmed, AMD Graphics Product Group. "By delivering an innovative, compelling solution inside a unique form factor, CoolIT helps enable ATI Radeon graphics processors to perform at high levels."

There's no word on pricing just yet, but the company announced that Dual Drive Bay VGA Cooler for HD 4870 X2 ATI Radeon Graphics cards would become available in September.
