Controlling your PC with the voice commands isn't something new, but the updated version of google2ubuntu works great with the Google speech recognition API.

Smartphones are trying to achieve what PCs were trying to do a decade ago and become speech-controlled devices. Google is already doing a great job with its dedicated API, and there is no reason why it shouldn't work on Linux systems.

According to the developer of google2ubuntu, this is a project developed in Python that uses the Google speech recognition API to control the computer.

The software only recognizes English and French, at least for now, but it's not quite as easy to use as you’d imagine. Besides installing it, you will also need to specify the commands you need.

The developer offers a long and comprehensive tutorial on how to get it going, but he also provides a PPA and an easy way to install it.

Have fun!
