KVM switches can prove to be quite useful devices, especially for those users who want to control multiple computers from a single "station" (namely, by using a single set of peripherals). And this is exactly the reason why the Avocent company has just rolled out the SwitchView 100 family of desktop KVM switches for small and home offices, which includes four different models, each supporting multimedia applications.
The devices from the SwitchView 100 series provide consolidated access to multiple computers through a single keyboard, mouse and VGA monitor and are available in two- and four-port configurations, for access and control of two, three or four multimedia computers. Furthermore, the models are equipped with either PS/2 or USB connections and have a very slim profile, which allows them to save quite a lot of space.
According to the company's statement, the SwitchView 100 switches come bundled with all the necessary cables for a solution that's ready to deploy out of the box, simplifying both the purchase and the set up process. Full audio support is also included, eliminating the need for separate sets of speakers and microphones for each computer and thus providing an uninterrupted multimedia experience across several platforms.
"The SwitchView 100 family is part of our continuing commitment to deliver economical solutions and quality to home, small and medium-sized businesses," said Michael Helms, director of product management for Avocent's SMB offerings. "Space and time are precious commodities, so we've designed these switches to reduce desktop clutter and improve efficiency while offering standard features at a great value."
The KVM switches from the SwitchView 100 series retail for around $45 - $100 (depending on the number of ports and type of interface), which is a quite an OK price range, taking into consideration the level of versatility these things can provide.
