Even though the world is still feeling the aftereffects of the tight DRAM supply caused by a fire at a SK Hynix plant last year, prices went down during the first two weeks of the month (January 2014).

The highest price dropped from $35 / €25.74 to $34 / €25.01, while the average chip price became of $33 / 24.27.

This is what DRAMeXchange reported at least (a research division of TrendForce) for 4 GB DDR3 modules.

Meanwhile, contract prices of 4 Gb DDR3 chips (1,333 MHz / 1,600 MHz) hovered at $3.81 / €2.80 very briefly. Now, though, it is of $4.2 / €3.09.

Clearly, the memory market is being rather fickle right now, almost as if unsure if it should still be suffering from the supply impact from the fire. We can probably expect more of this, but no significant price cuts, unfortunately.
