T-mobile has already announced its intention to protect children from accessing adult content by using Content Lock - one of the industry's most advanced filtering mechanisms - on all T-Mobile phones.

Since Contect Lock is switched on - on all T-Mobile phones by default - both prepaid and contract customers are unable to access any adult content, including photos, videos, chat rooms or mobile phone games, unless they prove that they are over 18 years old by calling a certain free number that is provided and following the instructions. Access to any adult rated sites, including gambling sites and unmoderated chatrooms is also blocked and customers trying to access such sites will be informed that the particular site is blocked.

Frans Lijnkamp, Public Policy Director of T-Mobile UK, said: "We believe it is vital to provide parents with the tools to protect their children from illegal or 18+ content on mobile phones and the industry has taken the appropriate steps to do so."

T-Mobile has now extended the Content Lock feature to the BlackBerry as well which means that all T-Mobile mobile phones that are available to the user now come with the filtering mechanism.

"As the number of people using the internet and the diversity of content available continues to grow, it is important to implement the necessary precautions to protect customers against illegal content. Extending Content Lock to BlackBerry users demonstrates T-Mobile?s commitment to safeguarding its customers," commented Peter Robbins, QPM, Chief Executive, Internet Watch Foundation.
