TEPCO says storage tank at Fukushima nuclear plant is leaking contaminated water

Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant is leaking contaminated water. The leak was quite accidentally discovered this past Wednesday by a plant worker who was just patrolling the area.

The source of the contaminated water is one of the plant's storage tanks, which apparently has been isolated in order to contain the leakage.

“Today (June 5), at around 12:15PM, our corporate company worker found water leaking at a pace of 1 drop per 3-4 seconds from the joint between the second and third layer (counting from the bottom) steel plates of the G6-1 Area No.9 tank side wall during patrol,” TEPCO writes in a press release.

Specialists are now trying to determine the cause of the leak, the company reassures.

News of this leakage comes shortly after an underground reservoir was discovered to discharge contaminated water into its surroundings.

Oh yeah, and there was that time when a rat chewed some wires and caused a power failure. But no reason to panic, right TEPCO?
