Toenails do nothing to cure cancer, and neither do rhino horns

WWF and TRAFFIC are nothing if not determined to curb the current demand for rhino horns. Hence their rolling out a series of ads which, despite their pointing out no more and no less than the obvious, might prove to be a very efficient conservation tool.

The idea behind these ads is pretty straightforward: rhino horns and toenails have the same makeup.

Because of this, consuming rhino horns for medicinal purposes is no different than chewing toenails and expecting to become cancer-free.

“Widespread lies, myths and rumours are fuelling demand and use of rhino horn. There are traditional medicines that have proven to be effective for treating a variety of ailments and symptoms and have saved millions of lives. Rhino horn is not one of them,” Dr. Naomi Doak says.
