Production will start in the first half of 2008

Work on building the Nokia plant in Cluj, Romania has begun after a long time of debates and agreements set between local authorities and the Finnish company. An opening ceremony has taken place today in order to mark the beginning of work on the factory.

The Nokia plant in Cluj is the eleventh such production facility that the company will open at a worldwide level. The amount of money that Nokia will put into building this facility is estimated at 60 million euros.

Work on building the Nokia plant in Romania has begun after an official opening ceremony. The mayor of Cluj was present, along with Raimo Puntala, Senior Vice President at Nokia for Operations and Logistics.

"We will witness an important transformation of this scenery. This wide field will turn into an high technology industrial area. Nokia is proud of becoming a key investor and one of the main employers here", said Raimo Puntala. "The 29th of June also marks the start of our recruiting process. At the jobs market in Cluj, which takes place today, we wait for applications from this region from people interested in working for Nokia", he further declared.

Nokia's facility will start production in the first half of 2008. Locals see in the new plant an employment opportunity and a potential impact on the economy. Nokia sees a gradual development of the factory, as to recruit an estimated number of 500 people by the end of year 2007. Moreover, it will also enable a large number of key suppliers and partners to locate their operations there.

Nokia currently holds 10 factories for mobile technology production in nine countries around the world. This new one which will open in Cluj is the only one of the Finnish company's continuous efforts of developing its production line and making tough competition for other producers.
