Ongoing rumors say Ricky Martin may have been pushed into coming out, either by his boyfriend or the paparazzi

Earlier this week, one of the worst kept secrets in the industry was uncovered when Ricky Martin admitted he was gay. Dodging speculation for many years, the singer came out via a statement on his official website, in which he explained time had come for him to be completely honest with his fans and the world at large. According to ongoing reports, it could very well be that the timing did not come naturally and that he was forced to come out.

In a post that announces about Martin’s official statement, the Miami Herald also drops a few hints that he may not have made the decision all on his own. “We hear rumblings that the reason Martin stopped living his (rather badly concealed) lie was that his boyfriend, a fellow Puerto Rican, was tired of living in hiding and threatened to expose hi[m],” says the publication, though it wouldn’t name any sources.

Another report which sums up other reports now circulating online says that Martin was pushed out of the closet by the paparazzi, from whom he’s been trying to hide his orientation for many years. Admittedly, some paps may be in possession of material that would have told the truth about the singer’s personal life and, most importantly, they wanted to sell said material to the media. Camp Ricky got wind of that and the singer outed himself before he could be outed by anybody else.

“Scandal! According to La Botana, the only reason Ricky Martin left his comfort closet is because he had no other choice; either he did it on his own, or the paparazzi were gonna do it for him. […] If everything is to be believed, Ricky decided to out himself instead of letting strangers bank off his private life. That and he’s been out of the spotlight for a while, so this probably seemed like a good comeback chisme. And it is!” says the aforementioned report.

Whether any of this is accurate or not might not even be of that much relevance to the fans and the community, both of which have embraced Ricky’s decision to come out. GLAAD even believes his announcement will encourage more artists and regular people as well to embrace who they are by being truthful to everyone around them.
