Udo Wedekind, a German conservation official who is in the business of protecting endangered species, is now getting loads of negative publicity, and it is all due to some pictures showing him posing with the corpse of an elephant he had just shot.

According to Daily Mail, the conservation official killed the elephant back in 2013, while visiting Botswana. At that time, the country had no laws intended to protect such animals from being shot dead by hunting enthusiasts.

Hence the fact that, apart from posing with the dead animal, Udo Wedekind sent the images to some of his friends, and even detailed how the hunt went.

“The hunt was tough, it was 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in the shade, and was really humid. There was also thick bush, making the going tough,” the conservation official reportedly told his friends.

“It was really a challenge. I'm so happy that it ended with a real hunting victory,” he added.

The elephant shot by Mr. Wedekind is estimated to have measured about 7.24 meters (23.75 feet) from trunk to tail, and to have weighed about 3 tonnes.

Interestingly enough, Udo Wedeking is one of the people who, just last month, helped pass a law banning elephant hunting by wealthy foreigners visiting Botswana.
