Jennifer Connelly Might Star in "The Blood Diamond"

The actress, who won an Academy Award for her supporting role in Ron Howard's "A Beautiful Mind", is now in negotiations to join the cast of the movie "The Blood Diamond". If she does, she will have Leonardo DiCaprio as a partner.

The film tells the story of a poor African farmer, who gets caught up in a conflict between an American diamond smuggler (DiCaprio) and the syndicate that controls the local diamond mining industry.

Edward Zwick will direct the film; the story is by Charles Leavitt and C. Gaby Mitchell, with a screenplay by Leavitt and Zwick & Marshall Herskovitz.

The shooting will begin early next year in Africa. The search for locations is still on.

Connelly's recent projects include "Little Children" (2006) and "The Berkeley Connection"(2006).
