This October, the demon doll from last year’s sleeper hit “The Conjuring” is getting her own spinoff – and from the first trailer, it promises to be at least as scary as the original!

Warner Bros. and New Line have released the first footage from “Anabelle,” which is also the name of the doll. The film doesn’t arrive in theaters until this fall, but you can already tell it will keep you on the edge of your seat, at those times when it won’t make you jump out of it completely.

There’s something about dolls that makes them inherently creepy. At the same time, horror movies seem to have a certain inclination to using kids to be even scarier. Well, “Anabelle” has both these elements: the doll by the same name who somehow appears more evil-looking than in the original film, and kids who show up randomly in people’s houses.

And of course, these people are then so uninspired as to ask them who they are. This is actually lesson 2 in the horror book manual, right there after running outside in case of danger, not up the stairs: never engage a creepy looking kid in conversation, especially when they show up out of nowhere in your house.

“Anabelle” is directed by John R. Leonetti and will tell the story of how the evil doll ended up in the house of Ed and Lorraine Warren in “Conjuring.” In other words, it’s an origin story. Check out the trailer below and see if you’d pay to see it in theaters.
