It has closed-cup design, a flexible microphone, and weighs 230 grams

Speedlink has just introduced a headset that seems to have all the markings of a high-end, expensive piece of equipment, but is, in fact, not expensive at all, definitely nowhere near those €/$100-200+ monsters we sometimes stumble over.

Called Coniux, the Speedlink audio output device actually bears a price of only €30, which translates into $42 according to exchange rates.

Well, technically, the price is of €29.99, or $41.67, but it's bound to be rounded up once the product is listed online, especially when adding shipping costs.

Nevertheless, the price is quite low, one might argue. After all, this isn't one of those small, thin, headband-less sets of earphones that you see around every corner.

Instead, the Speedlink Coniux has large, closed ear cups designed with “high-grade padding” colored black. Only the fabric covering the drivers is of a different color than black actually, namely red.

Moving on, the headband is flexible, so that it might adjust according to the shape of your head. There is no adjustable or elastic underband though. On the bright side, the headband is padded pretty thickly.

Active noise canceling is, also, absent, but with those ear cups, it's not really necessary either, not if you don't go out of your way to play games or listen to music in noisy environments.

There's a microphone included too, of course, and it happens to be flexible, meaning that you can bend it close to your mouth or away, depending on whether or not you're going to chat with someone. Speedlink describes the microphone as “sensitive” but doesn't elaborate.

As for connecting to a PC, game console or music player, or anything else with a 3.5 mm connector, a 2.3 meter cable (7.54 feet) is available.

Not detachable though. After all, in order to reach the price we have mentioned above, Speedlink had to cut some corners that gaming/high-end headsets usually go out of their way to include.

We've yet to hear of anyone that would consider a non-detachable cable a deal breaker though. Such enthusiasts usually buy a wireless headset anyway.

Speedlink Coniux should be found up for order with various retailers. Given that the box says, in black over yellow, that this is the 3.5 mm version, we'll go out on a limb and speculate that maybe Speedlink is preparing another Coniux, maybe a better one with more sophisticated connectivity and audio output. If so, the price will be higher on it, no question.
