If anyone needed more confirmation that Apple’s tablet was real and happening, Terry McGraw of McGraw-Hill not only confirms having worked with Apple with the tablet in mind, but also reveals the operating system it works on, all this while tipsters are leaking pretty solid evidence that Apple is renaming the iPhone OS to “iOS,” to better reflect the multitude of devices using it.

McGraw-Hill’s CEO confirms iTablet and long-time talks with Apple

In an interview with CNBC, McGraw-Hill’s CEO said the company had been working closely with Apple for “quite a while,” preparing 95% of its textbooks for the tablet device the Mac maker will unveil today. Publishing mogul Terry McGraw says Apple’s tablet is based on the iPhone OS, and that it will be a runaway hit in the higher education market.

“Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they’ll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while, and the tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable…,” Terry McGraw told CNBC. “We have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format. So now with the tablet you’re going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific.”

iPhone OS becomes iPhone iOS (rumor)

MacDailyNews reports that a YouTube video and an unrelated tip have combined to spell out “iOS,” referring to the new name Apple’s IPhone OS will bear, in relation to the increasing number of Apple devices the software will support. Citing a tipster, the site reveals Apple will rename the iPhone OS to “iOS” in order to “better reflect the diversity of devices that will run the operating system: iPhone, iPod touch, and future devices to be announced.”

A person going by the screen name of artmach1 corroborates this tidbit, with a YouTube video showing the “iOS” on a background that matches the artwork (color splashes) on Apple's event invitations. The source adds the following description, regarding the uploaded video: “Shaky cam grab out of some apple tablet presentation rehearsal for tomorrows brand new thing---I think any way. might have been enhanced from a pen cam or something. or hidden in a backpack or a box of equipment.”
