AT&T is apparently shipping in large numbers of 3G units

AT&T has been caught on tape receiving stocks of white iPhone 3G units, as well as black ones. The white model of Apple's new handset is (not surprisingly) packaged in white as well. The video also reveals that AT&T stores are seemingly getting a pretty good number of iPhone units.

A YouTube video which we've stumbled upon today shows an AT&T store preparing for the big launch, receiving both white and black iPhone 3G models, in almost equal quantities. One of the AT&T staffers, a woman, carefully takes just-arrived iPhones out of their shipping boxes and places them in a locker or something for safekeeping.

Tomorrow morning, (probably) the same AT&T employee will open the locker saying "rise and shine" to the new iPhone 3G units, after which they will be given up "for adoption." As any adoption goes, the "parents" will have to sign a contract in which they must specify how they want their "baby" to be: chatty (get an expensive talk plan), playful (data plan - App Store downloads) and, of course, "Caucasian" or "African-American."

Those who've been reading the news lately should know that iPhone 3G sports a new packaging, not only by its looks, but also by the material it is made of. PaperFoam CEO Hans Arentsen confirmed last week that Apple ordered "millions of PaperFoam packages" for the new device. According to the makers, the paper tray has a carbon footprint a tenth the size of a plastic tray, being made from potato or tapioca starch.

PaperFoam consists entirely of natural, renewable materials with no compromise on functionality. With the PaperFoam solution, the possibilities range from office articles to consumer electronics, as well as media packaging.

Halfway through the video I personally thought one of them was a bomb. You'll see (hear) what I mean. Enjoy!
