The display will be released at CES 2015 next week

Just before new year's eve, a report emerged on the Internet about a 21:5 Ultrawide monitor, or series of monitors that LG was presumably preparing for launch during CES 2015.

Now we have all the confirmation we need, in the form of a press release straight from the company. In fact, we know that not only a "normal" UWD display is on the way but also a curved monitor.

There will be one 21:5 monitor with AMD FreeSync called 34UM67, and a curved version called 34UC97, LG has given the simple name of UltraWide Gaming Monitors.

AMD FreeSync is a technology that syncs a GPUs frame rate with the refresh rate of the monitor, eliminating screen tearing and other glitches.

The ultrawide aspect ratio isn't all that vital, but it is one of the few things left for display makers to use in their marketing strategies, since every other form of display envisioned so far (Full HD, UHD, 3D) has already gone through its initial "rave" marketing stages.

Spec-wise, we're looking at a 34-inch diagonal, a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels, in-plane switching LCD technology (and thus, 178-degree viewing angles) and 99 percent coverage of the sRGB color space.

Finally, both conventional display inputs and Thunderbolt 2 are supported, at least on the curved displays. Sadly, pricing and availability details aren't known, beyond that LG will put the products on display at the CES 2015 booth between January 6 and 9.
