It had only been rumored that Apple was supplying sixth-generation iPod nanos to people who had applied for the replacement program announced last month, but now customers are confirming that the company is indeed replacing the old faulty players with units from this day and age.

Apple kicked off an iPod replacement program last month targeting people who owned a 1st generation unit manufactured between 2005 and 2006.

The company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California cited battery problems and mentioned the offset chance of incidents being caused by the aging and subsequent overheating of the players.

As such, Apple said a replacement was in order immediately. Later on, a problem emerged - there weren’t enough first-gen iPods to go around.

This week, rumors broke out that Apple would fulfill orders with sixth-gen devices, which boast numerous advantages over the older players.

One customer writing over at the MacRumors forums said:

Just received our replacement today - Fedex truck pulled up late in the evening. Inside was our replacement for our 1st gen ipod nano that was sent into Apple 1 month ago.

It's a 6th generation ipod nano, serial number shows that warranty has expired. Not sure if that means that it's a refurbished model or if it's a brand new model and they've deactivated the warranty. It's silver.

The iPod nano 6G features multiple advanced technologies, such as the accelerometer, and a touch-screen display, not to mention the underlying software that boasts intuitive graphics and the cool clock faces that make it possible to wear the iPod as a watch.

It has FM radio, whereas the first iPod nano didn’t. Storage is also a strong point with the newer nano - it starts at 8GB for the minimum configuration and goes all the way up to 16GB.

Pretty much everything else is better about it, like the battery, the controls, the accessibility features (VoiceOver), even its low carbon footprint should be something to brag about.

Anyone here got themselves a replacement 6G nano?
