14 DAY TRIAL // Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are the new rage as far as quiting the habit of smoking goes. They are purely electronic devices, but they can actually make you feel like you are smoking an authentic cigarette. The producers went to some lengths to create the perfect substitute, and apparently some of them did it. Most designs feature a product that looks just like a normal cigarette, and even have the red glowing tip. However, there is no burning involved in the process, even though some smoke does come out in the end. It's a fake, just like the entire gadget itself.
There is no tobacco inside, no warmth, and, most of all, no fire. Every time you “smoke,” the LED at the tip lights up, and a small dose of nicotine is inhaled, in a propylene glycol/nicotine solution. This creates the exact same effects as smoking does inside the body, but without all the toxic fumes that are inhaled with regular smoking. Thousands of chemical compounds can be found in normal cigarettes, and they contain at least 40 substances that have been linked to cancer.
And the fact that the entire mixture is burnt only “helps” to amplify the effect even further. With the new device, there is no burning of anything going on inside. The entire mixture is dry, although some models do have a portion designed specifically to recreate the impression of warmth associated with normal smoking. These cues, even though unrelated to smoking itself, are very hard to get rid of, as many people have had their daily routine associated with cigarettes for many years. That's why faithfully reproducing them is so important – the e-cigarettes offer a perfect way of kicking away the habit without actually doing it.
The average smokers complain that the new gadget is too heavy, and has none of the features that has made cigarettes so loved around the world. It has no smoke coming out, and some love to bask in that smoke, it gives away no warmth, and the filter is incredibly hard, much unlike the regular ones, which are soft and a pleasure to touch. Basically, the main objection people have against “smoking” these instruments is that they simply do not feel like a real cigarette.
